What Does ASIN Stand For & What Does It Mean?

FAQs

ASIN is an acronym that stands for Amazon Standard Identification Number.

An ASIN is a unique 10-character alphanumeric code assigned by Amazon to all products sold on the platform for easy product identification.

The parent ASIN can be easily found on any product page within the “Product Details” section. The child ASIN can be found in the URL (after /product/) by clicking on a specific product variation, adding it to your cart, and clicking on the product from your cart view. If you prefer a quicker route for finding the child ASIN, you can also use Helium 10’s free Chrome Extension.

To create an ASIN, you must go through the process outlined in Amazon’s Add a Product tool where you’ll fill out a form with your product’s details (name, brand, color, size and material make-up). After that, you’ll include a unique EAN or UPC number (from the product’s barcode, label or from the manufacturer). After you submit the product, Amazon will automatically generate an ASIN code and add it to the product details page.

You can search for a given product by plugging its ASIN into Amazon’s search bar at the top of the page.
